We give you the most important elements in selecting the most fabulous window treatments for your home...
Valances –There are several types & styles of Valances. The style you chose will definitely set the tone in the room.As with selecting drapery panels, the fabric and trim of your valance will also play a major role in determining the formality OR informality and the mood of the room. Below are the 2 major “types” of valances currently available.
Rod Pocket– most of you are familiar with the most popular “rod pocket” valance. Most store bought rod pocket valances are informal in nature simply because of the styles available & because of the fabric and trims that are used in making these affordable window treatments.Unlike some store made drapery panels (which have come a long way as far as quality is concerned), most store made rod pocket valances do not resemble the feel of a “custom made” window treatment .Most store made valances are not lined (as are all custom made window treatments) and the fabric & trim options available will most likely be very limited and probably not be a perfect match with your home’s décor. This is a good choice if you have a very casual & neutral room which will enable you to match store made valances with your home’s décor.
Board Mounted– most of you may not be aware that nearly all custom valances are mounted on 1”x4” boards. These types ofvalances are always custom made and usually involve the use of an interior designer.Because these patterns can be quite complicated, an experienced seamstress is usually required to fabricate these window treatments.Custom valances are usually the most expensivewindowtreatments. The high prices are mainly the result of custom designs and sizes, the fact that they are and hand -made,and the use of designer fabrics and trim unique to the clients décor. The use of board mounted window treatments are discussed further under “soft cornice forms” on the next page. Because most of the general public has not been able to afford custom window treatments, I have designed a line of soft cornice forms that fit into the budget of the most frugal consumer.I invite you to take a peek at my “Simple Elegance”collection on the main website www.DrapeStudio.comand get some terrific window treatment ideas for your home. The Simple Elegance collection allows you to select your design, size & fabric & trim! And our prices are fabulous.
Fabric & Trim – you can highlight or create “Drama” with the fabric choices you make when designing your valance.Remember to keep the tone & purpose of the room in mind and use fabrics that are reflective of them. Most fabric store associates are very helpful if you give them an idea of what you have in mind.
