Drapery panels are one of the most elegant and fn ways to add color and personality to a room. The most important things to remember when purchasing drapery panels are the following:
Width- When curtains are gathered or pleated, the width of the drapery panel shrinks down to about 1/2. So the rule of thumb is: if you want your crtains to be 50 inches wide, make sure that the fabric is double that size OR 100 inches wide: referred to as Double Width. If you don't have the proper width of fabric, your window treatments will look like a pair of sheets no matter how expensive the fabric.
Lenght-The lenght of the panels will always depend on the room's function. For instance, if you have pets and kids rnning around in your family room, you don't wan long drapery panels that can be pulled off the rod in an instance. However, if you have a room where the drapes will not be disturbed, then the longer the better. There are several lengths that can be used depending on the look that you want to achieve:
Touching the floor - very traditional
Slight Puddle - about 7 inches of overlay
Puddle - about 10 inches overlay at bottom
Pleats - There are various pleat options that are availabel. The most common for store bought curtains are the Rod Pocket. Below are some of the custom options available:
Pinch Pleat
French Pleat
Goblet Pleat
Tab Top
