Cornice Boards VS Soft Cornice Forms – The main difference between these two types of window treatments is that the shape of a Cornice Board is cut out of a piece of wood and the fabric & trim are stapled to it. A Soft Cornice Form can have the same design as a Cornice Board but the same shapes are created using fabric only (instead cutting the shapes out of wood). The top of a Soft Cornice Form is mounted to a Board in order to get that Custom Cornice Board look. Although the looks are very similar, the prices are very different. The cost to make a Custom cornice board is usually double (or more) than that of a Soft Cornice Form. Take a look at our “Simple Elegance” collection for some terrific Soft Cornice Forms.
· Cornice Board – as mentioned above, these window treatments are actually carved out of wood. Batting is then placed on the wood surface which is then covered in designer fabric and trim. Most Cornice boards are designed by interior designers and made by industry professionals. The designs for cornice boards range from the simplest to the most elaborate. Here, again, fabric and trim play a major role in determining the look & feel of the treatment. The elaborate curves and depth of the board will also contribute a great deal to the “Drama” this treatment can create. The beauty of this window treatment is that it can be paired with drapery panels, blinds and/or shutters. It all depends on the look you want to create.

· Soft Cornice Forms – this is a terrific option to the Cornice Board described above. As previously mentioned, virtually the identical look can be created by using fabric as opposed to a board. The very big difference here is price. This is a more affordable version of the cornice board. This definitely is our favorite pick! Customize with fabric & trim and you have a gorgeous Designer look without the designer price tag.
